The City of Drammen is a Norwegian city in the eastern part of the country. The last decades, the city has been transformed from a city that suffered from heavy traffic, to a thriving urban centre for the whole region, with an attractive city-centre. The riversides has been transformed from traditional industry to multi-functional compact city areas. No city in Norway has received as many awards for environmental and urban development as Drammen: 6 national and 2 international prizes since 2003. In 2020, the City of Drammen merged with two neighbouring municipalities, and now have 102 210 inhabitants. The current strategic aim of the merged City of Drammen is still to develop in a sustainable way, and to pursue a climate-friendly urban development for residents and businesses throughout the municipality, stimulating green mobility, compact urban development and densification around public transport hubs.
